Jane was experiencing high levels of anxiety and struggling to manage when she moved into a supported housing scheme in East Sussex.

“I was made to feel a part of their family. Throughout my time with them I was fully supported in all areas of my life and taught invaluable and lifelong skills. I believe that without this help I would not have become the independent and confident person that I am today,” she says.

The East Sussex Supported Accommodation Team and Shared Lives Scheme provide accommodation based support for people with eligible social care needs. The schemes support people to develop skills and increase independence within a provider’s own home or in a property that the provider owns. A wide range of support is available from providers, from managing bills to help with looking for a job.

Could you offer support?

The team are keen to hear from anyone who would like to offer support and accommodation to enable adults to live more independently in the community. Providers are given free training to make sure they have relevant, up to date knowledge and skills, and are supported by a Shared Lives or Supported Accommodation Officer who meets with them regularly.
